Career Pivot Success Story: My New Job!

I got a new job by following the 7 steps we promote on Career Pivot. I hope you follow them too.

Monday I'll start as the first Chief Strategy and Growth Officer at Intelehealth.

I am humbled by Neha Verma's trust in me to help Intelehealth improve primary health care and lower costs for national health insurance programs, using telemedicine methodologies and technologies.

One of my first questions to my new boss was the fate of Career Pivot and ICTworks. I have great news on both topics.

Accelerate your job search with Career Pivot!

Career Pivot Will Continue!

I have a deep personal desire to help you get a new job. Unemployment (or the fear of it) is a deeply traumatic experience. Layoff trauma is real. This is my third time being laid off, and certainly the worst.

We are a community and I am here to see you through this transition to success.

Look for more practical tips, tricks, and insights to accelerate your job search. Sneak peek: I'm building more digital tools to help you.

Career Pivot is How I Got This Job

Neha Verma saw my resilience and my ability to help. Combined with my years of thought leadership via ICTworks, and she sees me as a strong and conscientious leader for Intelehealth. I am honored by her belief in me.

I also spent years following the 7 Steps to Career Pivot success. I practiced what I preach, including defining my dream role so I'd know it when I saw it - this one!

7 Steps Really Do Work

All the research, recruiters, and career coaches say the same thing: you must follow a process for job search success.

First, you must look within yourself and find your true calling - rarely is this your current/last job. For example, last year, I created a vision board of what I wanted in a new job.

I realized I didn't want to work for a big organization like USAID or Deloitte - my most recent roles. I loved the excitement of small teams like at Intrahealth or Inveneo.

That led me to rethink what roles I really wanted.

An Employment Vision Guided Me

I networked with anyone and everyone to find who worked in my new dream role and alert them to my search.

The goal: get upstream from the job ad and talk with the hiring manager (or their influencers) when they start to articulate their problem. In fact, I wanted to be the one who writes the job ad to solve their problem.

Then, when the advertisement is published and you're invited to apply, you know you'll get an interview.

True story: I only applied to 6 jobs in the past 3 months. I was asked to apply for each, which resulted in 4 interviews and 2 job offers. Saying no to a military contractor job and yes to Intelehealth was easy when I had a 2025 vision board.

You Can Be a Pivoter Too!

The whole reason I started Career Pivot is to share what works. I spent years in the wilderness, applying blindly to job ads with zero success. Don't do that.

Do this instead.

Follow our steps, join a Job Search Council, find your dream role, network like mad to break into it, and interview like a pro! Be sure to leverage Generative AI in every step.

You can do this!

And for the love of god, do NOT search alone.

Stop Being Invisible to Recruiters

I know you’re applying to dozens of jobs and hearing nothing back.

Let’s improve both right now for mission-driven roles and senior-level positions. LinkedIn is the first place recruiters and hiring managers look. And if your profile still reads like a USAID project bio or a generic development résumé, you’re missing out.

85% of senior-level opportunities never make it to job boards.

They are fill through personal referrals or executive search. Are you showing up in either?

The AI-Optimized LinkedIn Profile Toolkit is your playbook to be found by recruiters and improve your networking efforts.

This is a 40+ page, practical guide built for professionals like you. You’ll learn how to translate your past roles into private-sector positions, write an “About” section that actually gets read, and use AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to rewrite bullet points, headlines, and posts with impact.

Stop wondering what’s wrong with your job search. Start fixing what matters most: your discoverability.

Download the toolkit now and build a profile that shows up in recruiter searches, gets you interviews, and reflects your next career—not your last one.
